Parking and permits

Virginia Beach rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Virginia Beach, a commercial vehicle longer than 20 feet or taller than 7 feet may not park in a residential or apartment district except while engaged in the normal conduct of business, and trailers can sit in a driveway for up to 24 hours to load or unload.

In Virginia Beach, the Resort Area's Residential Parking Permit Program restricts public parking on most residential streets between Rudee Loop and 30th Street from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and residents can issue free 72-hour temporary permits by license plate. City code bars commercial vehicles longer than 20 feet or taller than 7 feet from parking in residential districts unless they are making a delivery or providing goods or services, and recreational equipment may not sit on a public street for more than three hours. The streets code also makes it unlawful to place boxes, goods or other articles on a sidewalk, street or alley, and limits packing or unpacking on the sidewalk to items too large to fit through the door.

City Code 21-303 bars commercial vehicles longer than 20 feet or taller than 7 feet from parking in residential or apartment districts, except while they are engaged in the normal conduct of business.
