Parking and permits

Oceanside rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Oceanside, a resident can get a temporary permit, good for up to 24 hours, to park an oversized vehicle or trailer on the street overnight when it is needed for loading or unloading, which otherwise is banned between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

In Oceanside, oversized vehicles (over 25 feet long, or over 84 inches wide or tall) and unattached trailers cannot park on any street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., but a resident can get a temporary overnight permit of up to 24 hours when the parking is needed for loading or unloading or for a new resident. Large commercial vehicles are limited to three hours on residential streets and banned there from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., except while making pickups or deliveries. Posted street-sweeping restrictions apply, and a vehicle left unmoved for 72 hours counts as stored.

Oceanside moving questions

Can a moving truck or trailer stay on an Oceanside street overnight?

Not without a permit if it is oversized (over 25 feet long, or over 84 inches wide or tall) or an unattached trailer: those are banned from streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. A resident can get a temporary overnight permit, valid up to 24 hours, when the parking is needed for loading or unloading.

How long can a large commercial truck park on a residential street in Oceanside?

A commercial vehicle covered by the city's commercial vehicle parking limit cannot stay on a residential street for more than three hours at a time or between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., but the limit does not apply while it is making pickups or deliveries of goods to a building on that street.

Do Oceanside permit-parking areas block delivery trucks?

No. The preferential permit-parking rules do not apply to a commercial vehicle actively picking up or delivering goods or merchandise to or from a property.

Does street sweeping affect parking in Oceanside?

Yes. Where street-sweeping signs or markings are posted, stopping, standing or parking in violation of them is banned.
