Parking and permits

Sacramento rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Sacramento, city code requires an encroachment permit before using a public right-of-way to place or store trailers, containers, dumpsters or bins.

In Sacramento, placing or storing trailers, containers, dumpsters or bins in a public right-of-way counts as an encroachment, which needs a city encroachment permit first. Commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or more may not park on residential-district streets except while making pickups or deliveries of goods to a building there. Streets with curb and gutter are swept monthly from February through October, and cars only have to move where blocks have signed restrictions.
