South San Francisco rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In South San Francisco, a portable storage container used for a move may sit on private property such as a driveway without an encroachment permit, as long as it does not obstruct the sidewalk or street.
In South San Francisco, a moving container can sit in your own driveway without a permit as long as it stays off the sidewalk and street. Public Works' container policy describes an encroachment permit for street placement (up to seven days, one extension, city-issued No Parking signs posted 72 hours ahead), but the Code Enforcement Division's PODS page says PODS on the street are not allowed, so check with the city before planning a street placement. City code also limits large commercial vehicles to two hours on residential streets (except for pickups and deliveries) and bars leaving any vehicle on the street for more than 72 hours.
