Parking and permits

Cathedral City rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Cathedral City, no commercial vehicle of any kind may be parked or left standing on any city street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., except vehicles making pickups or deliveries to a building.

Cathedral City bars commercial vehicles of any kind from city streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., and commercial vehicles rated at 10,000 pounds or more may park off the truck routes only for pickups or deliveries. Trailers may otherwise be parked only on truck routes while attached to a towing vehicle, but the rule does not cover trailers being loaded or unloaded. Recreational vehicles, boats and trailers of any kind may be on a public street only for loading, unloading or cleaning, and the code sets both a 36-hour limit and, for recreational trailers, a 24-hour allowance.

Can a moving truck park on a Cathedral City street overnight?

No commercial vehicle of any kind may be parked on a city street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., except vehicles making pickups or deliveries to a building or doing construction work. The truck-route chapter defines a commercial vehicle as one used to carry people for hire or designed, used or maintained mainly to carry property.

Can a heavy truck park on a residential street off the truck route?

Commercial vehicles rated at 10,000 pounds or more may not park on streets that are not truck routes, except when making pickups or deliveries to a building.

Trailers may otherwise be parked only on designated truck routes, but that rule does not apply to trailers being loaded or unloaded.
