Parking and permits

Montclair rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Montclair, commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or more, and any trailer regardless of weight, may not be parked on residential streets except while loading or unloading for premises on that block until the work is done.

Montclair's code makes it unlawful to park commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or more, or any trailer or commercial equipment regardless of weight, on streets in its residential zones, with an exception for loading or unloading at premises on the same block until the work is complete; violators may be removed and stored. Anything placed in the public right-of-way counts as an encroachment, and the City Engineer charges a fee for the permit. Vehicles may not stay on a street for more than 72 hours, and residents of permit-parking areas get permits at City Hall.
