Parking and permits

Commerce City rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Commerce City, it is unlawful to park a large vehicle, recreational vehicle or utility trailer on any public street in a residentially zoned area.

Commerce City code bars large vehicles, RVs and utility trailers from public streets in residential areas, but exempts a large vehicle or utility trailer while it is actively being loaded or unloaded, and lets RVs and utility trailers park for loading and unloading for less than 48 hours in a seven-day period. A trailer counts as a large vehicle, as does any vehicle rated at 8,001 pounds or more. Under the city's right-of-way work rules, dumpsters and storage trailers need the director's specific approval to sit in the street, and residential streets are not plowed unless snow completely blocks traffic.
