Parking and permits

Allen rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Allen, a resident's moving or storage pod may go in the street only if adequate space on private property is not accessible, and trucks and trailers may stop on the street only to expeditiously load or unload.

Allen city code makes it an offense to stop, park or stand a commercial vehicle, a category that includes trucks and trailers, on a public street, alley or right-of-way, except to expeditiously load and unload, and bars those vehicles from streets from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise. Storage containers may not be placed on a street or alley unless the city permits it, but a moving or storage pod actively used by the resident to move is exempt when adequate space on private property is not accessible. Noise from loading or unloading trucks of one ton and over near residences is limited to daytime hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
