Parking and permits

Fort Worth rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Fort Worth, an oversize commercial vehicle, which includes any motor vehicle rated over 15,000 pounds, may not park on a public street in a residential area unless it is being actively loaded or unloaded.

In Fort Worth, city code bars oversize commercial vehicles, a definition that includes any motor vehicle rated over 15,000 pounds, from parking on a public street in a residential area unless they are being actively loaded or unloaded, and a vehicle left at the same spot for more than five days counts as stored. On residential lots, portable storage containers and dumpsters are allowed for up to 30 days (longer only with an unexpired building permit), must sit on a paved driving or parking surface if in the front yard of a single-family or two-family home, and may not encroach into the street right-of-way. Some neighborhoods are resident-parking-only zones, where visitor permits must be requested at least 24 hours ahead and expeditious loading or unloading of property is a defense to a no-permit charge.
