Parking and permits

Plano rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Plano, trailers, semi-trailers and similar vehicles may stand on a residential street only to expeditiously load and unload passengers, freight or merchandise, and storage containers are listed among items that may not encroach on streets or other public property.

In Plano, city code bars motor homes, buses, trailers, semi-trailers, truck tractors and similar equipment from parking or standing on public streets, alleys and rights-of-way in residential districts, except to expeditiously load and unload passengers, freight or merchandise, and bars any vehicle there that sticks out more than 95 inches into the roadway from the curb. Storage and shipping containers are listed among items that may not encroach on public property such as streets, sidewalks and parkways, though placement that complies with a valid city-issued permit is an affirmative defense. Vehicles must leave at least 10 feet of roadway open for traffic and may not sit on a street more than 15 consecutive days without being moved, and construction on private property near homes is barred between 10:01 p.m. and 6:59 a.m.
