Key rule: In Santa Monica, trailers of any size, and vehicles more than 8 feet wide, 8 feet high or 20 feet long, may not park on a public street or alley between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. without a permit.
Santa Monica doesn't require temporary no-parking signs for a move, but curb space for a moving truck can be reserved for up to 72 hours, and the signs must be posted and inspected by police 24 to 72 hours ahead. Moving PODs and dumpsters need a separate Use of Public Property Permit from Public Works. Large moving vans and trailers can park by day, but trailers and oversized vehicles need a permit to park overnight between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., and unhitched trailers can't be left on the street.
