Parking and permits

Carmel rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Carmel, no vehicle may be parked on any highway in the Town from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. between November 15 and April 15 each year.

These rules come from the Town of Carmel government, which includes Mahopac and Carmel Hamlet, through its Town Code and Highway Department. From November 15 to April 15, parking on town highways is banned from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., and vehicles with commercial plates that weigh over 18,000 pounds, run over 25 feet or have more than one rear axle can't park on town highways from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. at any time of year. Work in the Town right-of-way, the 10 feet back from the road edge, needs a Highway Department permit, and an unattended vehicle that obstructs traffic can be towed.
