Parking and permits

Orangetown rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Orangetown, no vehicle may be parked on any public highway from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. between November 15 and April 15, apart from a few excluded roads.

These rules come from the Town of Orangetown government's Town Code and Highway Department, which cover the unincorporated hamlets such as Pearl River, Orangeburg, Blauvelt, Tappan, Sparkill and South Nyack; incorporated villages have their own rules. From November 15 to April 15, parking on public highways is banned from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., and after two inches of snow those roads become emergency routes where unattended vehicles can be removed. Commercial vehicles may park on residential streets only while actually delivering or servicing a home, and obstructing a public highway or right-of-way needs a permit from the Superintendent of Highways.
