Hempstead rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Hempstead, trucks, trailers and commercial vehicles can't be left on any street between midnight and 6 a.m., though the Town code exempts them while they are loading or unloading.
These rules come from the Town of Hempstead code, not the separate Village of Hempstead code. The Town bans trucks, trailers and commercial vehicles from streets between midnight and 6 a.m. except while loading, unloading or serving a resident, and limits vehicles over 8,000 pounds on certain signed Town highways. A roll-off container or dumpster in the street needs a permit, 48 hours' written notice from the container company, a street at least 30 feet wide, and can stay no more than 14 days for a $15 placement fee; no Town street parking is allowed during a declared snow emergency.
