Parking and permits

Huntington rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Huntington, moving vans and other trucks with six or more wheels may not be parked or left unattended on Town roads between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. or at any time on Sundays.

These rules come from the Town of Huntington code, which covers unincorporated hamlets such as Huntington Station, Commack and Melville; incorporated villages such as Northport and Huntington Bay have their own codes. The Town bars moving vans and other six-wheel trucks from its roads from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. and all day Sunday, and doesn't allow commercial vehicles, including moving vans, to be kept on residential property without authorization. A roll-off container on a Town street or sidewalk needs a Highway Department permit with a $25 fee and must be removed by the permit date.
