Parking and permits

Southampton rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Southampton, parking on streets and highways in residential districts is prohibited every night from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

These rules come from the Town of Southampton government's Town Code, which covers the unincorporated hamlets; incorporated villages such as Southampton Village, Westhampton Beach, Quogue and Sagaponack have their own codes. Street parking in residential districts is banned from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., buses and trucks over 10,000 pounds are barred from listed Town roads except for deliveries and pickups, and the Town can remove vehicles left on a highway during a snowstorm. A portable storage unit may stay on a residential parcel no more than two weeks, and a dumpster in a front or side yard no more than four weeks, unless there is an open building permit.
